Delay in triggering Abelton link

Im getting a delay in playback when triggering the play button in GP to Abelton i with abelton link. Is this a buffer thing or is there a better way to sync the start/stop to be instantaneous? Thanks for your help

In ableton there is a setting where you can define that the start should be for example at the next beat or bar etc.
It is documented in the ableton user manual.

Yes, but the delay also occurs between instances of GP itself, without Ableton at all. This becomes problematic when attempting to sync the playhead in GP with an external app that doesn’t use LINK. I can start the playhead in the main GP instance, which is sending a message to the external app to start its playhead—but the GP playhead is delayed in starting when linked to another GP instance.

I’ve personally abandoned LINK for this reason, and have opted for syncing playhead operations between instances and apps with OSC and/or MIDI instead.

Thanks piano Paul. I must be catching it ā€œmid streamā€ hence the catching up aspect. Im going to figure a way to toggle that on and off.

Brilliant!! Ooooo this is fun. Perhaps with the relayer I can send midi start stop to abelton from one of my controllers from GP

Link snaps everything to a grid so start is never instant. It always starts when the bar has gone back to beat one. This is why I also abandoned Link to use Ableton to send midi clock. If you need instant start it’s not the greatest thing to use.

The advantage of Link is the perfect speed sync and beat sync.

It doesn’t matter what the setting is in abelton for launch. There’s still a delay. And the link is a stinkšŸ˜€
