Deactivating GP to Perform Windows Update

If I deactivate GP before installing an incremental Windows update. do I need to manually re-input the serial number to re-activate GP after the update it done? (Basically do I need to find the serial number?)

Or does GP remember the serial number?

Jeff

Yes…You would need to re-enter the number. I keep my number in a safe file and just copy & paste.

I have my all of my serials (v1-v5) in one text file. I don’t plan on ever downgrading, but I’m a collector. What can I say?

Thanks, I deactivated, updated Windows, and reactivated on my backup all good.

David, one thing that concerns me (and I suspect other Windows users) is Miscrosoft seems to find a way to install updates even if you really try to stop them. So, sometimes it is sneaky. I suspect sometime it just installs them whether you like it or not.

So, the worst case scenario is if Windows tricks you (or ignores you) and installs an update while you are at a gig.

So, I think that is another reason I would prefer to do an update even if I don’t have weeks before a gig. So, that way at least that update won’t be installed while I am setting up my rig at the gig.

Hmm, I noticed the following:

If I deactivate (to install a Windows update) and then a use the Shift key to open up GP with an empty gig file, if then activate, it ignores my prompt to start GP with an empty gig file. It seems to load my last gig file.

I think this may be a minor buglet?

I would think after you activate it should open GP they way you want (without loading a gig file).

Or give you some way it so does not load the last gig file. (I know this is minor  ).

That’s just a temporary change….it doesn’t stick, it’s not supposed to.

The more permanent option is in the Options menu. The "Shift-key while opening GP’ option is temporary.

Okay, I usually want it to default to open the last gig file. Sometimes I do not.

After a re-activating, I guess I would have preferred to open an empty gig file.

Ok.

OK - so basically you want it to open to the last gig file except when you don’t want it to open to the last gig file? :innocent:

I think he’s saying that when you activate (or re-activate), he’d want the the option to reload the last gig file turned off by default.

Except when he doesn’t :exploding_head:

Or bring up the selection window.

But, yes, it easier to load in a gig file (anyone you want) from an empty one then wait to load in a (big) gig file and then quit if you want an empty gig file or a different gig file.

Not really….if you hold the shift key down while a gig is loading, you will get the option to cancel the load.

Ok, maybe I just needed to be reminded of that option. Thx!
