Not the best photography, but here’s my rig (set up in the home office for practice and patch configuration). In the rack is a Geekom i7 PC with 2 SSD and 64 GB RAM plus a MOTU M4. Windows 11 all stripped down. Gig Performer is my host. VSTs:
- Pianoteq
- IK Hammond
- GForce OBX, Oddity, Mellotron, String Machine
- Diva
- FM8
- Gospel Musicians TGX85
- Waves sampler
- Cherry Audio P10, Space Tape Echo
- TAL Jupiter 8
- RipChord (as you can see, I run out of keybed real estate)
Cheapo Amazon monitor, iPad, and magnetic clamps fit into rack lids. Liquid Stand (not pictured) and my mic stand fit in a zip up canvas bag.
The controller on the top right of the keyboard is Intech Studio Grid. It’s a pain to configure, but powerful. This one has 4x sliders, knobs, and buttons. Once each parameter is set up with a MIDI CC# I let Gig Performer handle the rest.
I have one other small bag on rollers for a few accessories.
The pedal holder: 1/4” plywood with corners sanded and painted black. Bottom has some 3M silicone adhesive strips from Amazon. Attached with Velcro. Cable sock and zip ties managing cables.

Here’s a clip from a Halloween gig with the rig in action. @ The Rocktown Sparks - classic rock and dance cover band.

I was pleasantly shocked when I discovered my SL73 fit in an old SKB “61” case. Saved a couple hundred dollars right there. Another benefit to the Studiologic controller is the fact that it’s housed in metal. Durable, plus I am using magnetitic clamps to “mount” my iPad and monitor. Adhesive magnetic strips on the bottom of the Intech controller.
I switched from a laptop to the mini PC and interface mounted to the same rack tray. The stages are always too small and setup times keep getting more limited. I need a compact footprint and fast setup time while covering Dua Lipa and Peter Gabriel.

Rack case: it’s an Amazon cheapo, but I love it. Rails in front and back and storage pockets in lids. Molded feet on sides → LINK
