Crash Dumps when I Exit Gig Performer

For the last three days I have been getting crash dumps every time I close Gig Performer. I’ve been clicking the link to send the crash dumps, but thought I’d check and see if anyone here might take a look at the dump file and see if they can identify the ;'cause (maybe a faulty plugin?) I haven’t added any new plugins in the last few days, but I did start using the arpeggiator/sequencer in synthmaster3 for the first time just a few days ago. Any help is appreciated. I’m running Gig performer 5 on windows 11. OK, I just attempted to upload the dump file and learned that new users are not allowed to upload files, so does anyone have any suggestions how I should proceed?

How long had you been using GP before this happened?

Please disable that sequencer (possibly by temporarily disabling synthmaster3) and see what happens.

You should be able to upload the dump file and XML file now - please compress them first.

So, you are just closing out of GP? You are not shutting down the computer or using another app?

I might try terminating the GP process in the Task Manager before doing anything else with your computer (including shutting it off). See if that helps.

If you’re asking how long I’ve used Gig Performer in general, I’d say about 6 months, often for hours at a time and dozen of songs, without seeing this issue. When it first started happening, I’d been using it for a few hours before I closed it out and the crash happened. When it happened again the next time I closed GP, I did some testing and all I have to do is load GP and let it load all my rackspaces then immediately close it out and it dumps. I deleted the copy of the plugin where I had the sequencer enabled from the one rackspace that was using it and that didn’t resolve the issue. I see that I can now attach crash dumps so I have done so.

Please see my reply under my username in this thread. (I’m new and I think I accidentally replied to my own post instead of to your message. A dump file is attached.

On a whim I tried disabling the synthmaster3 plugin via the plugin manager, saving, and then exiting Gig Performer. It didn’t crash when I closed it, so I opened GP again, re-enabled the plugin, saved, then closed GP again, and it still didn’t crash. So I’ve gone in an played a bunch of songs using a variety of plugins (including synthmaster3) and rack spaces, and it is letting me exit without crashing. So, while not sure what happened, I can consider this solved. If I get future crash dumps I will open a new thread. Thanks for your help and time.

By any chance were you using the SystemActions plugin to show or use beat information?

You are on to something. I DO use the systems action plugin for that. I have an LED in my global rackspace that flashes with the beat when I enable the metronome. Once while I was loading and closing GP yesterday to test various scenarios of the crash I happened to notice once that light was already flashing as soon as it loaded, which seemed odd since the metronome is usually off when I start GP. I turned off the metronome, and I think that is what actually made the problem go away, because I did some testing this morning, and if I leave the metronome running when I close gig performer I get a crash dump, but If I stop the metronome first I do not get a crash dump. Either way, when I restart GP the metronome is stopped, so I don’t know how it got ‘stuck on’, but that seems to be what was happening. Can/should I mark this issue as unsolved again? I’m leaving town for 5 days in a few hours so I may not be able to reply/test further for a while.

Nope - your crash report hinted at the issue which I believe we have now identified and fixed for the next update.
