CPU load issues with Helix Native or other specific plugins?

Hello. Is it a known issue that certain plugins cause unexpected CPU load issues? Or is this related to an Apple Silicon specific issue? I am using Line 6’s Helix Native, which instantly causes a 25% increase in CPU load on my machine (a 2023 Mac mini M2 Pro). That in itself is not perhaps unusual, but what seems odd is that in one GP file the load decreases significantly (from 26% total to 12% total) when GP is moved to the background, and in another file the load increases significantly (from 32% to 55%) when GP is moved to the background. That is the behaviour is inconsistent and unpredictable. Has anyone noticed this with other plugins, and is there a solution?

Many thanks in advance

For comparison, Logic Pro running the same plugin shows a CPU load of 4% in Activity Monitor. Does this indicate the issue lies with GP’s compatibility with specific plugins (perhaps on the Apple Silicon platform only)?

I’m on a fairly low spec Lenovo Ideapad 3 (Ryzen 5 5625U, 16GB DDR4). Dropping Helix Native into GP stixks about 15% on the CPU load.

Are you using the AU plugin format in GP?
When you have GP in the background, is the Helix Native plugin window open or closed?

CPU load is the same (ish) with AU or VST. I tend to use VST3 where available in GP.
The plugin window is closed in both scenarios.
I think it’s the inconsistency that is bugging me - today the issue is not happening, and the same file that was previously reporting 32% in the foreground (and 55% in the background) is sitting at 20%, and not changing when backgrounded.

You were connected to power (not running on battery) on both occasions?

It’s a 2023 Mac mini M2 Pro so no battery power available.

Did you do any updates of anything recently? One of your plugins could be doing some maintenance (updating presets list or connecting (or trying to connect) to “mother to check for updates. As long as those CPU cycles are not on the audio thread, then I’m not sure I’d be too concerned beyond curiosity.
