CPU load and buffer size

Bit of an odd one - when the driver for my audio interface (Line6 Helix) is set to 16 samples CPU load of current project os hovering around 12%. When the buffer size is set to 512 samples this rises to around 28%. Surely the wrong way round? Anyway, I only noticed this because the CPU load had risen a lot so I discovered this was the cause - GP had automagically reset the buffer size for me. Also undesirable.
Anyone else notice anything along these lines? It might be a ‘feature’ of the Helix driver of course.

Out of curiosity — why such a low buffer size? I’ve talked to various guitarists using GP, some of them are world renowned pros and they routinely use anything between 128 and 192 buffer size. They say they haven’t found any benefit from going smaller than those values.

GP doesn’t automatically change buffer sizes unless the hardware reports that it can’t handle a particular size.

The best practice is that you first change the audio options on your Line6 interface and then modify the GP options. I’ve seen cases where GP edits were overridden by interface’s config.

This sometimes happens to me with my MacBook Pro and Focusrite 4i4. Never found a pattern. It’s noticeable when it happens as my usual buffer is 64 samples, and you can definitely feel it when it resets to the default 512.
