Converting gigs to rack spaces

I’ve done it backwards, I think.

I’ve created a number of rackspaces for individual songs. Each is its own gig file.

What I wish to do: convert each gig file to a rack space and start fresh with a new “master” gig file that will hold all racks needed for all the songs I will create.

Conversion of a gig to a rack space: I believe this can be done by exporting rack space from the gig and giving it the name of the song it will serve…and save. So far so good?

Next, I create a new empty gig and load the newly saved rack spaces into the gig. Name and save the gig. Do I have this bit right? For new racks, I’d just add them inside the “master” gig file and build away (or import a template I’ll make for a running start).

I still need to better understand converting rack spaces to songs and songs to set lists, but I just need to study up on that.

For now, trying to get into position for a big burst of rackpanel building.

Thanks as always for the generous coaching. My move from hardware to hardware/software is gathering speed now.

Lots of info here. Take a look under the heading [ 2 ] What can you export in Gig Performer for a way to import your rackspaces to a new gig file.

Looks good to me. But make sure you understand the difference between “rackspaces” in GP and “songs” (which can also be exported/imported).

You would create Songs and Song Parts by connecting each song part to any rackspace variation you want. As noted above, “Songs” (with their associated rackspace/rackspace variations) can also be exported and imported into Gig files.

That’s not a “thing”. You don’t convert gig files. You can export all your rackspaces from a gig file and then create a new empty gig file and drag in some subset of the exported rackspaces into it (just drag/drop from the folder where you saved your rackspaces)
