I saw the video of Pianopaul on OSC and Maxforlive which is great, but I have Live standard so no Maxforlive. And I also like to work in arrangement view, because not all the clips are the same length.
So instead, i’ve setup a rackspace with the IAC driver block and in ableton enabled the “Remote” setting for IAC in midi settings. In the IAC driver block in GP is also this: “Midi data to send when you switch to this rackspace.” Ive tried a few messages, and then in Ableton midi-mapped them to the locator (and it’s receiving the message) but when I turn off midi mapping mode in Ableton and in GP select the rackspace, it does not select the locator. Am I doing something wrong, or is this method not possible?
I just tried some random ones. CC105 e.g. Also tried CC2 and CC3, but still nothing. The weird thing is that Ableton recognizes it when I enable the midi mapping, so the locater is mapped, but when I disable the midi-mapping and select the rackspace in GP, nothing happens. However I do see the midi activity happening in ableton on a midi channel where IAC is selected as midi input. There is a lot going on actually. The screenshot is from one click on a rackspace.
I tried it again and it worked one time with CC3. After that it stopped working. I really don’t have a clue. Also mapping the locators isn’t easy. I have to click them multiple times before it is mapped.
In Ableton it is a little bit tricky because you cannot set it manually.
Best you select the rackspace then open the wiring view and open your MIDI Out Plugin.
In Ableton open the Midi assignment window
Select the desired locator
Then press “Send Now” in the MIDI Out properties window.
This makes sure that only the desired message is learned in Ableton.
You gave 127 in as CC value, and this did the trick. Mine was set to 0.
On the Ableton forum someone also said that locators are treated like switches. And for the “on”-switch you need a value above 64.
So thanks Pianopaul, once again for your help!
Do you know what other messages can be sent besides all 127 CC’s and all 127 notes to select locators? It’s more than enough off course, but just out of curiosity.
