I’m looking to pick up a Boss FS-6 Dual Footswitch to use with GP for a specific use. I’m also using the Yamaha MODX ESP as my VST and want to use the pedal to advance scenes within the ESP VST. I have created the buttons on my Rackspace that correspond to each scene. How would I program my foot pedal so that every time it’s pressed it advances to the next scene?
I use two single pedal versions of Boss Footswitches connected to MIDI Expression which then connects to my laptop using USB. There are other USB based switch controllers that can be purchased from Amazon. Paint Audio and M-VAVE are the brands that have the switches already built into the box that you can put on the floor.
Is there a reason you want to use the Boss FS-6 specifically? As dcafarelli has already stated you will need some other gear to convert the FS-6 footswitch to either MIDI or OSC. For about double the cost of the Boss FS-6 you can get the Boss FS-1-WL Bluetooth MIDI footswitch which gets you both wireless Bluetooth MIDI, wired MIDI, and class compliant USB MIDI, plus it has three programmable footswitches vs. the FS-6 two footswitches which would need an intermediary device to do what you want. You should be able to easily assign a MIDI PC or CC value to one of the footswitches on the FS-1-WL which can control the widget buttons you setup on your rackspace.
Once you have the pedal programmed to the MIDI values you want to use, and GP correctly recognizes your footswitch pedal as a MIDI device, edit your rackspace, click on the buttons you created, and click on MIDI under Widget Properties. You can use the learn button to then easily assign the pedal on the footswitch you want to use to activate the rackspace button you created.
If you already have a device that can convert the FS-6 to MIDI we’d need to know what is was to help you. For instance, I have two Nektar Pacers which can convert footswitches like the FS-6 to MIDI, but that would be overkill for what you need. The Boss FS-1-WL wouldn’t require any other hardware to work for what you need with three options for MIDI. There are other MIDI footswitches but you might need a 5 pin MIDI interface on your GP machine to get it to work if the pedal doesn’t have USB.
Can’t help with advancing scenes, but ive never really got that Boss pedal working properly with my keyboards. I tend to use the WS-F-WL with GP. its Bluetooth and midi USB, so talks directly to GP rather than going through the MODX. Much more versatile. You will have more luck with that.
I apologize and now I think I understand your question.
I use a Novation controller with two buttons. In addition, I have two foot switches connected to the Audiofront USB Expression I/O which has 4 switch inputs.
In my global rackspace, I have two button widgets (Next and Prev) which align to the Novation controller. I also have two foot switch widgets (Next and Prev) which align to the two switch inputs.
When you review the edit window for each you will see the following:
Highlighting on the Next button, I choose to map the button to the System Actions plugin “Next” parameter. So when you press the button, then the GigPerformer will move to the next Rackspace Variation or Setlist Song part. You can also see in the diagram below, there is a Next Footswitch which has the same mapping. So if I step on the foot switch, then next Rackspace Variation or Setlist Song part will be selected by GigPerformer.
