Blue3 v. B4II

I don’t know if that’s true but if it is, then you can solve that by disabling the Leslie inside Blue3 and routing Blue3 through the separate Spin plugin.

I also just now tried Acoustic Samples B-5 and I really like it. (I quickly got over having to use the UVI Workstation. The freebies I got that run on UVI Workstation are amazing, and that did help me “get over it” with the UVI Workstation. I already had an ilok account)

The vibrato/chorus knob setting “C-3” sounds “right” (excellent) on Acoustic Samples B-5
And I consider that “vibrato/chorus setting C-3” absolutely essential and it has to be “right”.
Blue3 and VB3-II, and even my beloved B4II, did not have nearly as good “vibrato/chorus C-3” setting as Acoustic Samples B-5

And fortunately the Acoustic Samples B-5 has the more realistic key click that rivals the B4II.

So, at least for now, it is starting to look like, for me, the Acoustic Samples B-5 might be my “go to” 64bit hammond (and be the replacement of my beloved B4II). Of course future updates of Blue3 (improving key click/spit and Chorus C-3) could easily change my mind.

Yes B-5 is good also.
But they do not support stream from disk, all samples are loaded into memory!
The Advantage of the others is that they do not need samples.

And (and that is very important too: Blue3 and VB-3 II support is reacting very fast and they really try to help you in case of any problems)

Good thing I have 64gb memory in my pcAudioLabs laptop!

Is the implication there being: Acoustic Samples does not have decent support?

I asked about streaming and I got the answer after 4 days, that they do not support.
When I contact Blue3 I get the answer after some hours or even faster.

@pianopaul
You really helped me on this thread (and elsewhere on this forum). Very much appreciated.
Now I see why it has taken me so long (years) to find "the right hammond for my particular wants and needs … “that can best replace what I liked about my beloved B4II”.

So in the end, is the best organ all in the ears of the beholder? I was hoping for a definitive answer, but I guess it’s all down to what sounds best in the individual’s ears.

In music there is no best.
One like for example Rhodes with Chorus, a purist hates Chorus…

Blue3 is already seeming like it could be becoming most preferred. If in future updates, they can just get the “key click” more like B4II, and “vibrato/chorus setting C-3” more like Acoustic Samples B-5…
then (in my humble opinion ) Blue3 would dominate the market.

And BTW, even my beloved B4II irritates me that it has a “high drawbar bleed” you cannot turn off. On songs with only mellow lower drawbar settings, I had to use VB3 on those songs instead of B4II.

Reach out to Ray with your feedback. As @pianopaul mentioned, he is very responsive

Thx… I emailed Ray earlier today with my three main subjective concerns with Blue3.
Key click realism (available adjustment not “getting it”
Chorus C-3 realism (available adjustment not “getting it”)
Attack time

@pianopaul already helped me with option to eliminate “drawbar bleed”. So that is a non-issue.

Regarding Chorus C-3: you could give PSP-Scanner a try.

@dougalex
Did you try to change the settings?
46

Yes I did try that. Thx
And BTW, given my interest in VST Hammonds, I have purchased Blue3, VB3-II, Acoustic Samples B-5… and of course I have Artiria B-3V and the older VB3 and B4II.

Except VB3 and B4II I do have the same

I am playing in a Pink Floyd Tribute Band and I am total happy with Blue3 and for Mother using Leslie from IK Multimedia

It seems like everyone is in a PF tribute band. I use Blue3 exclusively in mine - does the job!

Update

In separate support email, @ggaudio (Ray) responded to my subjective impressions regarding Blue3.

I am very impressed with the rapid response and support answers I received. There are detail settings in Blue3 I have yet to explore, and I am looking forward to getting deeper into this sophisticated VST instrument. I do already consider Blue3 a must have Hammond VST in my arsenal, so I am definitely very happy I purchased Blue3.
In that it has been decades (50 years?) since I sold my C3 and I have really only played B4II VST for many years, it is no wonder my impression of Blue3, (or anything, including “real Hammond/Leslie”), would be highly anecdotal, AND as always, my impressions would include the subjectiveness inherent in any sonic experience.
I am looking forward to getting deeper into all the detail settings on Blue3 and fully appreciating more and more what it can do.

Maybe consider sharing any presets you create with Blue3 that you think others would enjoy.
Curious as to what Ray said regarding that attack hat you felt was not sharp enough
