I originally used OnSong to send program changes via bluetooth from my phone to the Mac. However, my band switched to Songbook pro - and I can’t even get the iPhone pro trigger the midi light,
Is there a best practice to set up this app?
YES I read the manual and I read Songbook Pro as well - im striking out.
Likely - I’ll use the instructions on onsong first and see what changes need to be made
However this is a good place to have something for songbook -
Why SongbookPro you ask - unlike onsong it’s one time $7.99 instead of yearly fees - and cleaned up a lot of songs and handles set lists beautifully - the folders and ease of organization as well as scrolling makes it a great gig companion
I’ve been using and creating set list performer and obviously that’s the smartest route however, you have bands that are using SongbookPro to trigger mid events in their affects boxes as well as their drum kit. It’s very helpful to create a set list in SongbookPro send it and share it, and it automatically has them ready for the next gig with their own settings.
Current workaround is simply to manually create a list of performer that matches up with the one created in SongbookPro
But it sure it would be nice to have a freestanding Bluetooth tablet or phone that when I select the song triggers gig performers song…
I use an iPad to trigger everything midi on GP in my Surface Pro 10. But I added Bome Network to enable the connection. Talk to Steve over on the Bome website forum.
Connect your tablet to your Mac running Gig Performer using a USB cable (Ill put how to do it at the end - you can also do it using Widi Bluetooth - but I dont like the reliability during a gig - you will thank yourself using a cable)
In SongbookPro, tap Settings.
Select Foot Pedals.
Enable MIDI.
Verify your connected MIDI device appears and is selected. (Enabling MIDI on the Foot Pedals page is required before the MIDI Events option appears in a song’s Advanced tab.)
Program a Song from GP Set list
Open the song.
Tap the Pencil (Edit) icon.
Select the Advanced tab.
Tap MIDI Events.
Tap + Add Event.
Set Event Type to Program Change.
Set MIDI Channel to 1 (or the channel Gig Performer is listening on).
Enter the Program Number assigned to the Gig Performer rackspace or variation you want to load.
Tap OK.
Tap Save.
Example
To automatically load the Gig Performer patch for “Jump”:
Event Type: Program Change
MIDI Channel: 1
Program Number: 8
When the song is opened, SongbookPro automatically sends the Program Change message, and Gig Performer switches to the assigned rackspace/variation.
SONGBOOKPRO → GIG PERFORMER STARTUP CHECKLIST
Connect iPhone to MacBook via USB.
Unlock iPhone.
Open:
Audio MIDI Setup
→ MIDI Network Setup
Verify:
SongbookPro MIDI session is ENABLED.
Verify:
iPhone appears under Connected Peers.
Verify:
GREEN DOT next to iPhone.

If NO GREEN DOT or no iPhone appears:
See *RTP CONNECTION REPAIR below.
Launch Gig Performer.
Verify:
Options → MIDI Ports
SongbookPro MIDI is enabled as a MIDI INPUT.
Launch SongbookPro.
Settings → Foot Pedals
Verify:
Network Session 1 is selected.
Load a test song.
Open Gig Performer MIDI Monitor.
Verify:
Program Change message is received.
Verify:
Gig Performer loads the correct song.
RTP CONNECTION REPAIR
If iPhone is not connected or the green dot is missing:
Verify USB cable is connected.
Verify iPhone is unlocked.
Open:
Audio MIDI Setup
→ MIDI Network Setup
Verify:
SongbookPro MIDI session exists.
Verify:
SongbookPro MIDI session is ENABLED.
Verify:
Connection Policy = Anyone.
Look under:
Sessions and Directories
If iPhone appears:
Select iPhone
→ Click CONNECT
Verify:
Connected Peers now shows:
● iPhone
If iPhone does NOT appear:
a. Unplug USB cable.
b. Reconnect USB cable.
c. Unlock iPhone.
d. Wait 10–15 seconds.
e. Reopen MIDI Network Setup.
If RTP session disappeared completely:
a. Create New Session
b. Choose RTP
c. Name:
SongbookPro MIDI
d. Enable Session
e. Connection Policy = Anyone
f. Connect iPhone
Restart SongbookPro.
Verify:
Network Session 1 appears in Foot Pedals.
RULE:
NO GREEN DOT NEXT TO iPHONE = NO RTP CONNECTION.
GREEN DOT NEXT TO iPHONE = CONNECTION IS GOOD.
