Best practices for backing tracks

Hi guys,

for my band we want to use a backing track, to fill up some missing instruments (second guitar) and I am looking for best practices.
The idea is that I record the backing track (want to use Cubase for that). When I start the backingtrack the metronome should also start (four beats earlier would be good). Any recommendations what the best way is to achieve this? Especially to get the timing right.

There are several ways to do it.

You can create markers in Streaming Audio File Player and add Actions to turn metronome on and off where you need that to happen. Simultaneously turn on the Playhead Sync in SAFP. Then start and stop playback using the global Play button. Of course, in this case the backing track should have a bar of silence if you just want the metronome sound in the beginning.

Using Song Part Actions you can

  • Start Metronome
  • Add delay (the desired number of ms)
  • Then start the Streaming Audio File Player backing track
