Beelink SER 9 AI 7 H350 or Apple Mac Mini M6 24/512GB

Hi everyone,

it’s time to upgrade my glorious Zotac Zbox EN52060V. Think this is probably one of the worse period ever for upgrading but cannot see any chance it’s going to improve in the next coming month.

This is the app/vst I currently use:

ZL EQUALIZER 2 1.1.0(ZL)

TDR LIMITER 6 GE 2.0.1 (Tokyo Dawn Labs)

Originals - Intimate Strings (Spitfire Audio)

MEqualizer (Melda Production)

LABS 3.7.29 (Spitfire Audio)

Keyscape (Spectrasonics)

Instant Violin 1.1.3 (Virharmonic)

Instant Cello 1.1.2 (Virharmonic)

Hammond B3-X (IK MultiMedia)

BBC SYmphony Orchestra (Spitfire Audio)

Omnisphere (Spectrasonics)

FX-Omnisphere (Spectrasonics)

Other apps:

Elgato Stream Deck 7.1.1.22340

Gig Performer 5

Audient USB Audio Driver v 5.2.3

Audient ID 4.3.20.0

May be 512gb or hard disk could be tight since the beginning..

Any advice or comment is appreciated.

Thank you

Depends.

Do you want to upgrade your RAM or Storage in future? Then Beelink is a better choice. (It has dual M.2, up to 8TB)

Are you comfortable with 24 GB of RAM and 512 GB of storage (not upgradeable)? If so, go with the Mac. As compromise, you can buy an external drive, rather than trying to cram all your sample libraries onto the internal 512GB drive.

Hi Npudar, thank you for yours. Depends is always the engineer’s answer. Sorry for my rough question. Fact is the Beelink is a strange animal, since has soldered RAM, hence you can upgrade storage but not RAM (LPDDR5X). It seems that in the future this kind of RAM will be used more and more since has better throughput than DDR5. Do you think an AMD processor is fine with Gig Performer or should I better go to Intel? Ref Apple, I heard about the possibility to use an external drive but am still skeptic about that. Anybody in the forum that use this option with success? I could save +220 eur for extra storage and buy instead, an external dock like Sonnet Echo20.

My impression is most people use an external SSD drive to hold sample libraries. (I do).

The downside, it adds a slight bit to the chance of a problem, for example, if a cable disconnects or there is a problem with a usb connection. The upside is you can always get a bigger drive (or easily replace it if there is a problem) and it is portable (and probably cost less than increase the size of you internal drive).
