I saw a video on youtube explaining how to use the built-in auto sampler feature in Gig Performer.
That seems to be an excellent tool when you need to use a sound from an external keyboard (if you don’t have it’s VST) or if you need to use just a few notes of a plugin that uses too many resources.
Recently I found myself in one of the above situations. I need to use just a few notes (lets say, one octave) of a KONTAKT guitar library that always loads fully (even when I purge all samples) and tried to resample that plugin.
I must say I have done it several times, increasing velocity count, noter length and so on, but the final result is always crap. Autosampler seems to record the sound source generator but not its built-in effects. So, a powerful, full-bodied guitar ends up sounding like a banjo.
Adding the effects myself to the final product of autosampler is not a solution. Neither I am a sound engineer nor have the knowledge to try and tweak lots of effects trying to make a banjo sound like a powerful rock guitar.
Am I missing anything here? Wasn’t it supposed autosampler to record the sound exactly as I ear it when I play the VST on my keyboard?
The auto sampler records exactly what is coming out of Kontakt (or any plugin for that matter)
I just verified this by loading Kontakt, adding the factory piano, turning on the delay to full and then auto sampling 5 notes. The resulting wave files had the identical sound along with the repeats.
Which guitar library did you use and did you verify that all the effects are coming out through the same output ports of Kontakt?
I dont know what effects the original VST has. I added nothing. It is played “on the fly”. If it has a reverb (as it seems to have) it’s a buil-in effect that I cant desable and cant add later.
By the way, I tried to sample the same notes with a KONTAKT factory sound (piano) adding delay to it.
As you can ear in the recordings attached, the problem remains.
HOWEVER, I noticed that if I keep the keyboard note pressed (for a long note, for example) the effect comes out.
That is what I would expect, as the Autosampler records the sound triggered by Note On messages.
You really cannot resample realtime Effects as that would be part of the sample and you would need to use a long release curve in Kontakt, which would not be desirable.
Better you switch off realtime effect on the original plugin, resample the pure sound and then use
plugins for reverb or delay etc AFTER the decent sampler.
Sounds complicated but when you think about that this way is the only possible way.
And that is not a restriction of Autosampler.
I understand.
Thats why autosampler is useless for me.
As I said before, I am no sound engineer nor I have the knowledge (or the tools and software) to recreate the complex effects built in the sounds I need to Sample.
So I am in a dead end. The kontakt library loads fully even If I just need a few notes, and I cant Sample it properly…
