Automatic stepping Setlist of Songs using backing tracks

Hello,

I am quite new to Gig Performer and I played around with the features I want to use but am not sure if what I am trying to achieve can be done easier or more inside the logic of the Gig Performer environment.

Here is the goal: I play guitar to backing tracks. I want to create multiple Songs. Each Song has a backing track and a Midi (?) track to switch sounds in a separate instance I use for my live guitar playing. Before I start a show I want to create my setlist and arrange the Songs in the right order. Then, once the playback is started I want it to play through all songs. That means, whe one Audiofile is finished it should switch automatically to the next song and directly start playing without any input needed until the last song has finished.

What I could do:

  • start a backing track automatically when a rackspace is selected by creating a button and set it to last saved state. Sometimes it works but not on the “play from beginning” but only on “play/pause”.
  • create a midi track that switches to the next racspace
  • create a second instance for the guitar and switch sounds with program changes in the same midi file.

What I don’t understand:

  • I understood I need to create one rackspace for every song with the right track loaded to the audio player. So it appears easier to me to not use the song structure in Gig Performer at all but only save a rackspace for every song I want to play and arrange these in the right order before the gig. It appears to me that if I use songs I have to do double the work before the gig and load the sngs as well as the rackspaces to make everything play correctly. What am I missing here and what would be the right way to solve this and make use of the Setlist feature as well.
  • is there an easier way to switch to the next song/rackspace after the audio file player has finished? maybe through a script?
  • What is a safe way to make sure the Audio player and the midi player start playing immediately when the song is (automatically) selected?
  • can i switch between presets in a different instance through Markers and timeline actions in the Streaming Audio player?
  • can I send the song tempo that I saved in every rackspace also to the second instance?

Thank you for your responses or for guiding me to the right resources where I could learn about that. I read the manuals for the modules I’m using and read the forum but still those things don’t make sense to me.

This is an easy one. If you use setlist mode, you associate the song (and each song part) with a rackspace variation [You should only need to do this once with each song].

So, when you put a setlist in order, the proper rackspace variations for the song (and each song part) are already in place. I hope that makes sense.

I would look into using the Streaming Audio File Player in the global rackspace. You can use the Actions to move to the next song at the end of your audio track and send whatever messages you need to another instance (OSC or MIDI ).

You can also use the song part midi messages to automatically select the audio track for the song. So using this with the setlist feature means you can create your custom list of songs and retain the sync with the selected audio track e.g.
