Audio interface Soundcraft UI24R

A little off subject. At the moment I’m running all my keyboards into my MacBook Pro. From there it is going to a Presonus 24C interface via USB C. From the 24c speaker out L&R it is going to a Pyle Hum eliminator to quiet the IOS noise. From there it goes into a Soundcraft UI24R mixer. Everything sounds great and is working. Then I saw a video today about using the UI24 as an interface. Said he loves it and it sounds so good. And it looks like I could eliminate a couple more cables. On the front it has (2) USB A and one USB I/F. On the side it has (2) Ethernet, (1) HDMI, and (2) more USB A. Is it just plug and play? Is anyone familiar with the UI24R and how to make it eliminate the Presonus 24C? Thanks in advance.

I recently sold my Ui24R when leaving a band project.
I had the same thoughts about the usage in the past and I gave it a try:

  • The unit as a standalone mixer in conjunction with an external WiFi access point worked mainly like a charm
  • In other communities the power supply and overheating issues ar discussed frequently
  • Personally I had no overheating issues
    However
  • the USB audio interface is very unreliable and stopped working regularly due to mains issues at some locations
  • It was slightly better after using a power conditioner or UPS
  • Also an USB Isolator device was no really completely avoiding this issue
  • I had two or three complete hang ups in 4 years where I needed to power cycle the unit completely

I can not recommend it for use on stage!

Edit: sorry forgot to answer the technical part of your question: it‘s all about proper patching. IIRC there a fixed channel assignment where the first 10 channels are mapped to Main LR+8 Aux followed by the individual channels if you want to use the inputs of the Ui24R by USB. That’s the only thing to keep in mind when setting up the matrix. Have a look on FB there are great groups especially covering the Ui24
