Audio File Player Location Mass Update?

I’m in the process of moving to iCloud Drive from DropBox. All my gig files and Audio Files were in a DropBox directory (Dropbox/GigPerformer/Audio Files). and they now will be located in an (iCloud/GigPerformer/Audio Files) directory. Is there any way to mass change this so that I don’t have to go into each rackspace and change them? (About 100 songs)

Not the end of the world but thought I’d ask before spending the effort.

And while I’m at it, is there a best practice for file locations in OSX. I know by default it stores in the Documents folder but is there an issue with copying that section en masse to another location (like Dropbox or iCloud?)

Thanks

MM

Regarding the file movement: I’ve not checked this but I think you could edit the gig file with a text editor and use search & replace to change the file paths? Gig Performer closed / gig file not open…
And: use a copy of your file to test!

About the file structure:

I personally set up a Gig Performer sub folder structure in my documents folder and place everything related to GP there.
A ‘problem’ with OSX could be the user name, when moving from one mac to another. Therefore (and for many other reasons) I have the same user name on my machines.

I’m syncing manually as I have disabled or even not installed most of the background services like OneDrive, Dropbox etc. on my live rig. This also includes that I do not sync my documents folder with iCloud! I use dedicated sync folder and a good backup concept.

Just my thoughts

PS: also unchecked - you could try to use the ‘~/’ to set the starting point for your files in your user-home directory, maybe the developers can say something more about this here? @dhj ?

Yeah, this should be the fastest, easiest but most dangerous (in case of doing something wrong) way to get the job done… make a backup of the gig file before doing this!

Excellent thanks!!

I’m also interested in changing the location of the audio files, but I don’t understand how to do it: when I open the .gig file in a text editor, I can’t find any reference to the audio files used by the audio file player…
Either these references are encrypted in the long string of characters in the " PROCESSORSTATEZ" either they are stored elsewhere but I have not found another file created at the same time as the .gig

I agree. I just tried to edit them by creating a gig file with one audio file and don’t see any reference to it using a text editor??

Ups, sorry for misleading you - you are right: the filenames are “hidden” in the (binary) Plugin state (PROCESSORSTATE). Just checked it here as well

I mixed this up with a different problem I had in the past (identification of plugin versions in a gig file).

No worries, I appreciate the intended help!!!

Update: Wasn’t as hard to change the location settings as I thought. A few OSX shortcuts and the process went easy.

So now all my GP files are in the iCloud Drive which lets updates easily flow through to other computers.

Any issues with this? Does anything save to the documents folder that I should be aware of or are there settings to redirect them?

What do you do when no internet access is available?

They are still local. iCloud Drive is like Dropbox

Exactly @dhj. I was paying for Dropbox and iCloud Drive. While I think Dropbox is better, iCloud Drive serves my needs. You can decide what remains local and what doesn’t.

I just want to make sure there are no default actions that write files to the documents folder so that if I sync with another computer, it’s the same.

(There is an option to sync Documents folders in iCloud but I think that is by computer and I haven’t yet turned it on)

Just another thought: I’m not sure, but I think iCloud does currently not provide an “Always keep on this device option” like OneDrive. And I don’t know when iCloud decides to ‘drop’ your local copy to make some space on your local drive.

I think if you download a directory and don’t check the “optimize mac storage” you should be OK. I’m still learning but I think you can do this.
