Its hard to compare the M1 / 8GB to an Intel i7 1265u with 32GB … but from what I read the Apple architecture is a whole different beast.
The i7 1265u with 32GB at 96k / 32 Buffer gave me 3.6s RTL and a GP5 CPU load of around %44 - that was running one NDSP Amp Sim and 10 or 12 VST 3 Pre-Post Efx.
Any thoughts / users / problems / benefits etc….. compared to Intel ?
For what it’s worth, I was using an M1 with 16GB and ran out of memory quite often when loading a full 60 rackspace gig file. CPU has never been an issue (always under 30%) but once I started to use the swap file i found sometimes id get a few stutters or crackle when first playing notes of a newly selected rackspace/song. Of course Predictive loading is an option.
Depending on the use case: running at 48k/64 buffer size could lower the cpu requirements significantly, without trading any signal quality and you shouldn’t notice the small amount of extra latency.
