About Bulk Reset to Different Rackspace/Variation

Hi.

In the manual, I read:

Bulk Reset to Different Rackspace/Variation… - this menu item enables replacing a rackspace variation everywhere it occurs with a different variation. This makes it fast and easy to change e.g. all of your piano sounds in one gesture when you get a new, more glorious piano instrument or sound. Choose the rackspace you want to use as a replacement, and after accepting the change in the confirmation dialog, all instances of the old variation will be replaced with the new variation.

Is this replacement done by Rackspace Name?

My situation is that I’ve got several dozen songs which somehow all contain some song parts that override the underlying rackspace variation. This is not as intended. Since I did not visit all these one-at-a-time and make those overrides, I must have mis-created from the beginning when I did the original duplications to create all the songs. Since I have subsequently added names and MIDI setup strings, I really don’t want to start over from scratch.

I would like to do a :“bulk” operation to undo all those overrides without having to visit each one individually. Fortunately, the names of the song parts are consistent, so if song part :“s4” is one of the wrong ones, then there is an “s4” in all of these songs and I want to fix all of the :"s4"s. etc.

This operation seems like it might be the right op for the job. Is it?

  • Make a copy of your gig file
  • Try it on the copy and see if it does what you need it to do
  • If so, then the answer to your question is yes.
  • If not, then the answer to your question is no.
