Primary live use is MIDI Guitar 3 driving guitar effects and layers of synthesizers or sampled instruments.
Ideally could run DAW or similar software simultaneously w/o any glitches, but if necessary could have backing pre-rendered into .wav files.
Good point about RAM for samples. I’m often creating rigs with synths and in that case have had no worries about RAM for samples so far. However, I am also starting to blend in NI Kontact and so I may run into RAM limitations that I did not encounter before.
Trade-offs that must be made in today’s market center around 2-in-1 design, touchscreen, screen size (e.g. 16” or larger), and 64 GB RAM. Haven’t yet turned up a machine with all 4.
IMHO, battery life should not be an issue. It should always be plugged in.
Actually, I do not want anything that prioritizes preserving battery (or other similar “efficiency” concerns) over power.
I would think 4 performances cores might be just enough (disclaimer, I don’t know much). (I have more cores than I can use with my rig).
I think you mostly use 1 performance core (a single thread of a single core). Maybe some plugins use their own cores and if you use multiple instances of GP, you can take advantage of more cores.
