Yamaha ESP 3 VST - works fine after reboot

That worked. Thanks.

I noticed performance degradazione after GP 5.1.4 upgrade. Anyone has had the same impression?

What does this mean?
And how did you measure it?

Increment in CPU usage and GP slower/ less reactive in plugin and rackspace switch

After a second reboot performances are better. Plugin Ui opening times and overall performances (CPU usage) again as pre-update.

It seembs that after the post setup reboot windows needs to be restarted one more time.

Now the much cheaper MODX-M is available. You could get the 61-key version for about $1,800. And now, you get the ESP VST!

Next Spring. Unless its delayed. But yes, eventually Yamaha has promised it. Which is promising that they are going to continue to support it as it is rolling out to a MUCH wider audience now…

Yes. But this new ESP will be available only next year and will be a reduced version. Probably less polyphony if compared to the MontageM version. I will wait to see the differences. If sound library is the same, it will be interesting enough.

Modx M has no balanced output. Being a live keyboard player this is not a good way to make me happy. I forgot DI use since ages.

@jlgrimes - I just got the plugin but can’t seem to get any sound to play. Wondering if you could share screen shots of all your MIDI connections and any settings in the ESP or GP that you had to change to set it up properly. Trying to troubleshoot but so far, community help hasn’t gotten me anywhere. TIA !

ESP will be released for MODX and updated for Montage soon. I believe to coincide with Namm this month. Both will have the same version number but each will only have the features of the relevant keyboard. This will also coincide with the MODX M getting new FW that will bring it in line with the Montage as far as software features go (obviously no hardware updates). Both will have the same samples/sounds etc and will be fully interchangeable apparently.

I never buy something for what I might do in the future, but I got the M7 because it’s getting ESP and the much needed update to store key ranges and transpose on a per scene basis. Sorely lacking in the old MODX.

Once the FW and ESP is out, I’ll be replacing as much as I can in GP with ESP, so very interested in any threads about ESP. I love the Yamaha Piano’s and Brass, and missed both when I went over to GP 18 months ago.

Ive never played a keyboard with balanced outs, and never had any noise issues. What is the downside to not having balanced when gigging keyboards for the most part when we can use DI boxes. small mixers etc?

If you place your DI and mixers and whatever close to your keyboard rig, no problem. If you have FOH at 5 meters away and you go there without DI, then problems will come out immediately. If there are lights you will have noise modulated with lights on and off. Really disturbing.

I am trying to understand what will be the difference between ESPs (MontageM and ModxM). Maybe polyphony? Not an issue for us using plugin live…. Being from same samples database, I don’t see differences for us.

In the meantime MontageM has a discount here in Italy for 350 EUR…

Yeah, I understand the long run cable issue, but its possible to use DI boxes close and run balanced out from them, so I dont see why it would be a deal breaker for anyone. its not like it cant be used live on any stage. Ive seen people complain about the lack of balanced outs, and agree, it would be nice to have, but I cant imagine its ever been an issue to anyone unless they refuse to work with it and do whats needed. Would anyone really carry 5 meter jack to jack cables and run them across a stage? Maybe ive just come across this scenario before.

Ive never used ESP but I wonder how Yamaha go about re creating (if they do) things like the Pure Analog Circuit 2.

Hopefully we will know soon.

Yes. If you use DI close to your keyboard, no problem. I don’t like to have with me devices that should be inside my keyboard. Every serious keyboard has balanced outputs and aftertouch. I use balanced cables with a length of 10 m. I don’t know which type of service will be present when I go for a gig.

For these reasons I am not planning to buy ModxM (unless ESP will be perfect) but I understand very well who will do it. Sample database is huge. Three days ago I tested a ModxM7 and I was not satisfied by the keyboard…

I spent some time with @Bryan this evening and could not get the ESP to work.

It is as if it was simply not responding to any incoming MIDI messages in GP. It does work with Cubase so there’s nothing wrong with the installation.

Does anybody else have this plugin working with GP on a Mac?

As soon as its released, hopefully in the next few weeks, I’ll be using it.

You are talking about ModxM version.

Guys here are trying to use the MontageM version, which is available since some months.

It will be essential to know the differences, just considering the huge price gap!

Yes, im talking about the MODX version. I just meant i can get to see how it works and might be able to offer some extra guidance.

The MODX version will be the same version number as the Montage version I believe. Yamaha wants to keep both versions at the same release number apparently (according to the web, so who knows).
