I’ve tried both the Audio File Player and the Streaming Audio File Player for triggering

There are special downloadable rackspaces that may be closer to what are you looking for:

• Audio File Player → 8X Soundboard / Just play samples, sounds and loops with 8 pads
• Streaming Audio File Player → 8x sample player using the internal SAFP (GP 4.82 and later)
