Same here. They were one of the few German '70s and '80s bands who played their own compositions, which were excellent. I have an Amazon Playlist of all of their albums downloaded to my phone for listening while dog walking. Very few weak songs. If you haven’t listened to the relatively recent live release “Reincarnation on Stage”, do yourself a favor and buy and/or stream it. It was recorded in Switzerland, so the comments between songs are in German! Ha. The first CD in the set (the first 11 songs) is especially strong. I have listened to it MANY times and love it every single time.
Wow, I had forgotten Eloy for years, wrongly so.
Casio VL-1.vst gets no permission from Apple.
Did anybody mention Kraftwerk in the last days?
Best E Piano Sound EVER: Die Tänzerin von Ulla Meinecke: For Korg Kronos there is a commercial XFM Soundest which has XFM modulated E Piano Sound which come close.
Best German Song of the 80s
Watzmann, Wolfgang Ambros!
We played it over 35 years ago in my that time band called “Dr. Zahnstein”, the later infamous Dr. Z.
Our bass player used to sing the intro in dark mood and low gothic voice, while me making a winter storm with filtered white noise, Juno 106:
“Groß und mächtig,
schicksalsträchtig,
um seinen Gipfel jagen
Schweinebraten”
Never got that out of my head. Singing it loudly each time we have Schweinebraten at home or when dining out, obscuring anyone else.
Reminds me to „I bin reif für die Insel“ from Peter Cornelius.
We always sang „I bin reif für Dein Pinsel“ from Petra Cornelius.
From Chat GPT:
In the context of the playful misinterpretation you mentioned, “Pinsel” in German literally means “paintbrush.” However, in colloquial or slang usage, “Pinsel” can also refer to the male genitalia.
So when you and your friends sang “Ich bin reif für Dein Pinsel,” it humorously transformed the original phrase into something with a sexual innuendo, implying “I’m ready for your paintbrush,” with “paintbrush” serving as a euphemism.
This kind of wordplay is common in parody or humorous renditions of songs, adding a double meaning to the original lyrics.
Oohhh —
That is the fine German sense of humour.
You did notice the change from Peter to Petra Cornelius, right?
Yes, die reife Petra!
Has anybody found or recreated the original FM piano sound with vstis? I think the recording was done with a Yamaha GS1. I tried the usual suspects, like FM8, Arturia’s DX7, Dexed, Korg opsix, but never got really close. There was probably the Ensemble setting used on the GS1, does anybody know which vst fx to use to recreate this?
Thanks!
Does this help?
YAMAHA GS 1
Baujahr 1980
Yamaha GS-1 for Syntronik 2 (GS-V)
I have it as part of Syntronik 2 Max.
Here is a live version of “Die Tänzerin”, and for comparison to the above version by Franz Kreimer, Erste Allgemeinen Verunsicherung (EAV), this is George Kochbeck, one of my German Keyboard heroes. Watch especially from minute 5:20
Ah, this is cool. I have Syntronik 2, but not Max and so the GS-V is not included. The SY99 has different FM pianos, so I built a multi with four of them. I am getting closer to the original LP version, but I’m still not quite there. Total Studio 4 Max is on sale for 130,-, so maybe I should upgrade…
Nice! I have seen him live on tour with Peter Maffay in 1990 where he mainly played the Hammond B3. Great player.
Yes, great keyboardist, also great Organ-PIayer. I remember that he was voted Germany’s most popular keyboardist (KEYBOARDS Magazin?) in 1990. He plays with the Who’s Who in Germany, Peter Maffay, Ina Deter, Herwig Mitteregger, Ulla Meinecke, Anne Haigis…
