I’m new here, very happy to have found Gig Performer. I have a question regarding waves plugins though:
I’m currently programming my keys rig into Gig Performer. I found a great sounding sub octave plugin by Waves called submarine (v16). It doesn’t introduce any latency and tracks perfectly. So I bought it and started implementing, however I didn’t see vst or vst3 options listed in GP which led me to search the forum. A couple of threads popped up regarding waves not being reliable in GP. Is this still the case? Can I safely use this plugin or will this give me issues down the road? I want the rig to be bomb proof but also really enjoy this effect so I’m hoping this will be OK.
While I hate their licensing policies, I have been using one of the Waves plugins (Tune Real-Time) for five years since I haven’t found an alternative yet.
It has never been the cause for a problem ever! As always this is just a personal impression.
What is it you can’t find? Are you having trouble to find the Waves plugin in the plugin manager? GP can use VST, VST3 and AU.
I agree on the licensing, it truly sucks. But for this one plugin I’m willing to pay the fee to keep extending the update plan.
In the plugin manager I only see the AU version, which could be fine, I’m not sure. I tend to stick to using VST versions of plugins I use but maybe that’s not necessary. I’ll do some more testing with the AU plugin
Good. Since we agree on our dislike of their business model, let me tell you from experience that the plugin works very well even without paying for the update plan.
With the purchase you permanently own one working version/license of the plugin - no need for a continuous subscription.
Since I need the plugin on two machines I also used to pay for the update plan giving me an additional licence. After some years I realized it’s cheaper in the long run to just buy the plugin a second time giving me two permanent licences as a one-time payment.
Yeah I also need to run it on two computers. That’s why for this sub plugin I’ve just upgraded to an extra year years of the update plan for 9 USD.
I bought a pretty big package of Waves plugins when I first started mixing some years ago but all of those plugins are now useless to me since they don’t support Apple Silicon Macs. I don’t gravitate to those plugins anymore anyway so I just uninstalled them. But if I understand you correctly, most other updates are not really necessary for them to work in future OS versions?
If that’s the case I’ll consider buying a second one as you suggest once the update plan runs out. Good tip.
To be honest, I never noticed any difference between the versions. They also don’t really communicate what’s actually changed as far as I know (also part of their business model).
In fact, I even mix the versions (machine A has V13, machine B has V15) and the gig file opens and saves perfectly with all the parameters.
By the way: V13 runs very well even on Sequoia. Here’s what it says in Waves Central but I was able to “install anyway”:
I found waves prs guitar amp emulator had issues when I was using predictive loading. So u used it in Apple MainStage and controlled MainStage with gigperformer. Now I use the gigperformer relay plugin so it’s easier to control w gigperformer.
