Currently there is a promo-sale running for Steinberg’s Halion V7.5 - they offer 60% discount!
Means: Pay 140€ instead of 349€
I took the plunge yesterday and… OMG, aside from all the synth- and sampler capabilities, the sheer number of preset sounds and instrument modules is overwhelming.
I tried it as VST3 in Gig Performer and the GP CPU-meter rarely climbed over 4%… this is really good!
In my opinion, there are many, many useable sounds (for live playing) contained in the whole package, but also lots of synthetic arps and sequences and electronic sounds, as well as ambience sounds and special FX.
For me, i think it was absolutely worth the price - just for the huge audio playground it offers.

Ive been using Halion 6 since I started with GP. Its definitely one that doesn’t get enough love, but can pretty much cover everything if needed.
Same here. It’s DEEP!
Halion 7 is stellar! It is the go-to of all my VST plugins.
It is Good, to really Great in pretty much every area - 30GB library- loads quick,
and is very stable in Windows!
Low CPU except for Skylab (Granular/modeling).
A big feature for me, is that H7 works perfectly with the GP Auto-Sampler, (leave the options off)
you just drag your samples, into the H7 mapping window , and it just maps the samples perfectly
every time!! Kontakt is quite a bit harder (for me), to get them to line up!
Copy Protection scheme is Excellent now, (it was pretty bad before–with the E-licenser!)
Anyway, at $139 US >> grab it!! ![]()
The eLicenser was why I avoided Steinberg products like the plague. Early on, I bought some Slate plugins that required the USB iLok dongle, which NEVER worked reliably for me on any of the 4 different desktops and laptops I tried it on. iLok soft licensing works flawlessly for me, but Slate never added that option to the plugins I bought, so f’ Steven. I figured if the iLok dongle didn’t work for me, then the odds that I’d have trouble with the Steinberg dongle were high. Hard pass.
HALion 7.5 licensing worked great for me. Zero problems. I’m happy to finally have it available.
EDIT: Kontakt is a dream compared to SampleTank. Syntronik worked OK for me, so I bought SampleTank 4 Max on a major sale. It took me less than a week to uninstall it and write off the expense. I’ve been using Kontakt for 15 years. It’s not going anywhere.
Reading this forum cost me so much money. Gonna go check it out right now.
