Hello everyone, I’m facing the following problem:
I want to send a single Bank Select command and Program Change command at the beginning of each internal song‑to‑song transition. The MIDI message should be sent through the hardware MIDI Out port of my Focusrite USB interface (the classic 5‑pin DIN output) to an external synthesizer.
The synthesizer requires both a Bank Select and a Program Change command.
What is the best way to achieve this?
Hint: The Normal Action “External Prg Change” does not work…
Thanks, I had already found that as well. The problem is that this function doesn’t produce the desired result. I want to send a program‑change command via MIDI to our guitarist’s effects unit. Every time I activate the function you suggested, the effects unit switches into programming mode and overwrites the name of the current preset. That, in turn, causes chaos on stage.
However, if I insert a MIDI‑Out port into the rack and program the program‑change command including the bank‑select command there, everything works perfectly. The problem seems to be that Gig Performer, when activating the function you suggested (which is actually exactly intended for the purpose I need), sends out some additional commands. For example, the commands shown in the screenshot I added here.
These messages are generally sent when you have a MIDI Out block in a rackspace and you switch to a different rackspace (or song part that uses a different rackspace). They are standard MIDI messages designed to stop a synth from playing (in case of stuck notes, say) and reset various controllers and the pitch wheel. If your effects processor is responding to this by going into edit mode, then your effects processor is not obeying well-defined messages in the MIDI spec.
I can’t see the complete time stamps on the left but looks like the second set came later suggesting that the action was retriggered or maybe you still have the MIDI Out block there
Can you create a really simple gig file (without any 3rd party plugins, as few rackspaces as possible and as few songs as possible that reproduces this? It does not happen on my system with the single action I created and attached to the first song part of one song
Hello djh, my Gig file is very complex. I suspect that somewhere in this file there is indeed an error that causes the duplicated command. However, it probably wouldn’t help to post a simple Gig file that has absolutely nothing to do with the one I normally use. I’m working with a complex base rack that includes a mixer, effect sections in the Global Rack, as well as very intricate wiring including audio integration for time‑synchronized triggering of audio snippets.
