Reset all settings?

Is there a way to restore all Gig Performer settings to their defaults? A factory reset, as it were?

I read the manual and searched the forum, and nothing obvious popped up.

I can see a few use cases:

  1. I write an implementation guide for myself or others. I want to start from a known point, so that everything is on the same footing. A stale, rogue setting could cause problems and a troubleshooting scavenger hunt. Such a guide can help me create a new Gig from scratch, when trying new ideas.

  2. I might have tried something new, it didn’t work, and I diddled many option switches trying to solve the problem. When I finally solve it, I’ve left a trail of unnecessary changes. It could be good to go back to first principles, make that last, successful change, and confirm the solution on a clean platform.

  3. When helping out new users on the forum (who might have tried random things), we can ensure that they have a clean starting place.

So, does such a full-reset switch exist, or is that feature limited to developers or require a clean, re-install?

Thanks!

Perhaps by removing the .settings files?

That will certainly reset to defaults. It will also force a complete plugin rescan since those are all in the same file

Thanks! I’ll give it a try. I can always rename or otherwise hide the file, so I can restore it if there is a problem.

I’m on a Mac. Where can I find the .settings file?

~/Library/Application Support/GigPerformer

Ahh. I had looked in the root directory, not under the user. Thanks!

I exited Gig Performer, renamed the file to “GigPerformer.settings” to “GigPerformer.settings-old”, restarted it, and can confirm that it rescans the plugins and looks like a fresh install. Importantly, it doesn’t affect the license, so no need to de-authorize and reauthorize the machine.

Tip: To see hidden files in the Finder, without needing to use the Terminal, use Ctrl-Shift-. (Ctrl-Shift-period).

To complete the topic for future readers, what is the path on Windows machines?

BTW, I think that this solution is perfect. There’s no button that could accidentally get clicked. You have to be 100% intentional to do this reset. And the reset starts everything from scratch, which is exactly the goal.

It’s C:\Users\yourusername\AppData\Roaming\Gig Performer
