OpenCore Patcher

Hi folks,

Anyone using GP with OpenCore patcher. If so how has the experience been. Thanks

James

Note that Deskew cannot provide support for GP on a machine whose OS was patched by OpenCore (or any other tool)

With the caveat that no software vendors will offer official support for OCLP, I used it on a 2015 MacBook Pro up until just a few months ago.

I was on Sequoia, which was nowhere nearly as stable as Ventura. Ventura was the most reliable OS to run under OCLP in my experience.

Having said that, I tried to break everything and the only two items that gave me problems were:

  1. All Native Instruments apps/plugins on Seqouia (but all ran fine on Ventura);

  2. Camo Studio on Seqouia (an external camera application that also ran fine on Ventura).

It’s an interesting dilemma by the way. For example, in the Windows 11 world, there are tons of programs that “modify” Windows to get rid of bloat, to remove unnecessary (from the user perspective) programs, disable telemetry that reports stuff back to Microsoft. We even have a terrific book that helps people optimize Windows for better audio performance. The problem of course is where do you draw the line when someone used such a program (or followed optimization advice) and something went wrong, potentially causing applications such as GP to misbehave.

Good info thank you. I have a couple of N.I. instruments. I am also going to be acquiring some Arturia Lab software so I am hoping someone can chime in there.

Yah I get it. I messed up my Win 7 machine a few years back optimizing it.

Arturia V Collection/FX didn’t give me any problems on OCLP – but that was then!

Good points. It’s certainly a great way to get more out of older Apple computers and prevent ewaste.

In my experience, the very ocassional issues were all graphics related. I had a rather smooth experience overall. The biggest difficulty was updates. And you’ll certainly learn more about macOS through the OCLP experience.

I would vouch that a GP5 user is highly unlikely to have problems with GP5 itself. Again, I highly recommend that if anybody does go down this path not to go beyond Ventura. I should also qualify that I jumped OCLP ship because I did get a bit tired of the maintenance required especially when I tried to set up dual boot Windows/macOS system. There aren’t enough hours in the day!

OMG……RE dual boot. I am surprised you had time to play music. Thanks Valtnaemsae. Good info. I have two mac minis so I will start with one and report back. Cheers
