I installed GP5 trial (universal / native version) and played for quite some time. When I already thought the problem had gone I had a delayed note again, though. I kept playing for a while to double-check and it happened a second time.
Then, again to double-check, I tried Kontakt in standalone mode again and after some I had a delayed note again. So yesterday I just seem to have been lucky when the problem was not there when playing in standalone mode outside of GP.
Since it apparently isn’t a GP issue, I totally understand if you’re not willing to dedicate your time to this. Of course It’d be awesome if you still could help me fix this.
Concerning audio drivers: According to Steinberg the drivers have native compatibility for silicon chips on macOS Sonoma. To install them, I had to change security settings after going to startup options, though. I’m new to macOS, so I don’t know if this might have any implications. It’s what the official Steinberg homepage says, so I didn’t think about it too much.
One more update (last one for today from my side).
I just completely reinstalled all the drivers of my audio interface and updated the firmware, since I’ve read in other forums that people have struggled mightily with UR audio interfaces in combination with apple silicon chips. Seems like sometimes the driver isn’t installed properly without the installation manager telling you there is a problem.
After doing this I played for a while again and didn’t have delayed notes so far. I can’t tell for sure that the issue is solved yet but I definitely hope so. I’ll give another update in the next days after spending more time on testing the new firmware and drivers.
Unfortunately it happened again, so new firmware wasn’t the solution either
I’ll try to borrow another audio interface from a friend in the next days and test it for a real long time to make absolutely sure the issue really is related to the audio interface. If so, I’ll contact Steinberg and / or my reseller. That’s probably gonna be a long way to go, but I don’t see any other option…
Thinking about it, a delayed note comes probably from a buffer issue. This issue is probably within the MIDI interface or its driver. How is your MIDI controller connected to your Mac?
The MIDI controller is connected to the audio interface via 5-pin-MIDI cable. The audio interface is directly connected to my macbook via usb-c (without any hubs).
I’ve changed my setup to use a Roland UM-One mk2 USB-MIDI interface and a USB hub to connect the MIDI controller to my MacBook, as suggested by @jeffn1.
I’ve been testing this new setup for approximately 2-3 hours of playing time now and haven’t experienced any delayed notes. Previously, I would have delayed notes probably 3-5 times an hour, so I’m fairly confident that the issue is resolved. This workaround works for me for now, and I’m very glad that I can rely on my setup once again. Thanks to everyone who helped me out with this; I really appreciate it!
That said, I’m still going to try and contact Steinberg to see if there is a proper solution to this. After all, my audio interface has MIDI-In, and I want to be able to use it correctly. If I get any relevant information on this topic, I’ll post it here.
