I know we are advised to not update unless we will we need the new features, but i did anyway.
Ive been using the previous version of B-3X since June, ive got it in about 25 Rackspaces, always as VST3.
So tonight i updated to today’s version on my Mac, and quite a few Rackspaces say its now missing.
I can’t understand why it’s not all of them. They all used the same VST.
Any ideas? Its not a big deal to fix the missing ones, but i cant understand how a lot of them are fine and dont need any attention.
Ah sorry. User error again.
I opened up an older Gig file and can see i had used AU on a few of them. When i updated B-3X i only installed VST3. This explains it why they are missing.
Sorry for the confusion.
On a slightly related note, is there a way to double click on a gig file and have it open? As far as i can see either the last one used opens, even if i click on a different one, i can have a dialogue box open asking me to choose, or it opens to a blank gig file. Cant we just double click a file and have it open?
Thanks again David.
Yes, I’m aware of not mixing formats. In fact ive taken all AU and VST’s out of the plugin list. These must have been done at an early stage when i first started on mac and assumed the native format would be better.
No problem about the bug. At least i know not to try it.
For anyone that has updated to the latest version, have you noticed it loading up quicker than the previous version? That was one of the benefits apparently.
Also I presume it hasn’t changed anything licence-wise? E.g. now requiring to ‘call home’ or anything similar?
I cant tell at this stage. To me it still doesn’t seem snappy, but maybe it is a bit faster.
No idea about the license. the update was still registered, i didn’t have to activate it or anything.
Strangely the IKM software app wont accept my login details. Ive reset the password 3 times but still nothing. I can log in via the website and i had to download the update from there.
Actually I am not so sure about start up, but it does seem like it is releasing ram faster on GP shut down (so I can shut my computer off without concern faster). (But, even that I am not sure about).
Yes, it loads quicker, however, a few other issues have presented themselves. Licensing worked flawlessly. I’m on a MacBook Pro Max M4 with 128 gb memory and 8 TB disk. Can’t change the GP Audio Buffer Size anymore. It stopped working. Also, grabbing more than one widget and trying to move them is an ordeal. They jerk all over the place then, settle down in the wrong place. I have 198 racks setup and they all worked. I think I miss my Intel…
Well, took my sick puppy (MacBook Pro Max M4) to Apple to diagnose exactly what was going on. Brought my Intel MacBook Pro also. Found the issue! We disabled Apple Intelligence and EVERYTHING works great. I removed 532 VSTs which no longer pass validation under Sequoia 15.2 too. Now I can update the Audio Buffer Size and everything else… Who would’ve guessed? Apple Intelligence is enabled by default.
I just tried to change the buffer size in my GP and it worked fine.
I haven’t got any widgets assigned to anything in B-3X (for reasons stated in my other thread), but the sliders etc works fine in the plugin.
How much RAM in your machine? On a MAC? I use B-3X all over the place, but it lives in my Global Rackspace for optimization purposes. It’s used in 80% of my racks. I run 2 instances of GP. The B-3X lives in both Global Rackspace instances since I use it for BackGround and Foreground Leads, as well as 2 147-Leslie speakers for Front and Rear performance.
Yesterday when I switched from Apple Intel to Apple Silicon with the newest GP update. I updated while on the Intel, but hadn’t tried the Buffer Size change. This system is literally a game changer in performance all around. It loads 400-500% faster, and with 4 instances of Kontakt 8 running Session Guitarist rhythms, lowered from 70% CPU usage to 22% CPU usage. I might get off 2 instances except having setup 198 backspaces, I don’t have the willpower:)
Assuming you are running the universal version of GP, are all of your plugins running native as well? If you have even just one Intel AU plugin, then the entire Rosetta system gets loaded and that can cause all sorts of issues.
Is there a way to disable Rosetta and flag by error a possible AU plugin? Right now I have more than 4,000 plugins. Under Intel they all worked. Now when I check the plugins with GP5 there are 504 failed plugins. Obviously many are not Silicon conducive. I’m working on that issue now as I replace them.
I only use VST3s or VSTs when possible. Yes this is the Universal version of GP. You don’t have a specific Apple Silicon version to my knowledge.
Apple did something really sleazy, IMO. They needed to make sure that Logic/MS/Garageband running on the first available version of Apple Silicon machines would work with all the plugins, most of which were still only Intel, not universal. Since those hosts only use AU, Apple set things up so that if a host tries to load an Intel AU, Rosetta will run automatically to allow those plugins to be accessible.
But they didn’t do this for VSTs, thereby putting all other hosts at a disadvantage and so all those other hosts using VSTs on a Mac look like they’re broken.
