Identifying which Songs or Song Parts use a specific Rackspace

Hi

Is there an easy way to find out which Songs or Song parts use a particular Rackspace? e.g. My rackspace called ‘Compressed Piano’ - which songs use that Rackspace?

I have 91 Rackspaces and one of them needs to be recreated due to a problem I have with one of its plugins. But before I do that, I would like to know which songs will be affected by that. If it’s one song part in one song, I’ll probably not worry as much as I would if it’s used across a dozen or so songs.

Thanks

Hm, no idea how to get a list. I did an external script for plugins usage in rackspaces some time ago, but not for rackspaces in songs/setlists.

only idea for the moment:

  • If you try to delete a rackspace (or variation) you will get prompted if, where and how often this rackspace (or variation) is used

Does this help?

I have been in a similar situation. I agree, this would be very helpful.

I know there are threads on similar topics. But, I do not know if this type of capability exists.

Thanks @tripleB
That certainly helps! Unfortunately it only lists one of the songs in use, but not all. Still, better than nothing. Seems like a fairly straightforward thing to script if one knew how (which I don’t).

Just go ahead and create a new rackspace and then you can use the Bulk Reset to Different Rackspace feature to swap the new one for the old one everywhere it is used.

I guess the concern is he does not know exactly how that rackspace will affect each song it might be in.

I suppose if you are going to follow edm’s suggestion, perhaps save as a new Gig File.

That way you can see if you ever run into a song using that rackspace and determine if there is any issue. If so, you could always access the prior configuration (including the the song and any widget snapshots, etc.) in the prior Gig File.

If you’re familiar with an editor, you can load the Gig file into the editor (it’s a text file). Then, search for ‘Compressed Piano’; there you’ll find a UID with a very strange number. Search for that number in the Gig file, that will help you find all the places where ‘Compressed Piano’ is referenced.

Cumbersome, but it works.

As it stands, that is the solution @wsomm - thank you. I’ve just installed Visual Studio Code and opened up the .gig file. Worked perfectly :+1:t2:
