Here’s a tip for today—how I handle different setups in my system without overcrowding the Global Rack, since you only need many of these options once at the start of a gig.
I simply have a startup rack where I set hidden parameters in the Global Rack, so I only need a slim Global Rack.
I’m constantly switching between different roles—sometimes I play guitar, keyboards, and vocals; other times just keyboards and vocals… the channels shift because I only use my Helix as an additional interface for the guitar setup… if I don’t have that, I get wrong notes because TG+TB MIDI might send data then.
So the maximum setup is Helix as the main interface and MOTU as the second, and so on. I also want to have some interface channels active or not… so here’s my screenshot of the rack:
TG MIDI + TB MIDI + VOC CH9—I only need this when I have the Helix active; without it, I don’t need my TG+TB MIDI, and my vocals are then on CH1. Also, turning on the inputs on the MOTU is controlled within the rack… I only need the main channel strip at the beginning of a gig to adjust the EQ, compressor, etc. Launching the external applications is handled by a script that starts the programs directly.
Screenshot of the simple MIC on CH 9 or CH 1 solution in the Global Rackspace (both Cabled but only one is active):
In the global rack, I’ve wired up both setups, but I only activate the one I currently need. Used by hidden widgets.
