Help: KORG nanoKontrol2 No Longer Seen By Gig Performer

I went to a rehearsal today and my Korg nanoKontrol2 was no longer seen by Gig Performer. I’m guessing this is due to some Windows Update that got through and updated the generic MIDI drivers and somehow caused a conflict with the Korg driver. I installed the Korg driver several years ago just because that driver is needed to use the editing software.

Even stranger is that the Korg nanoKontrol2 was listed in Device Manager as functioning.

I uninstalled the nanoKontrol2 device including the driver software. Now Gig Performer sees a separate nanoKontrol2 device. Inside Rig Manager it’s strange. The “old” nanoKontrol2 is listed as “missing” and the aliases are also “missing”. They are not red and I cannot reassign them.

I’m at a loss to how to fix this issue and restore my gig configuration. Do I download the latest Korg nanoKontrol2 driver and attempt to install it? It seems I should just keep using the generic Microsoft MIDI driver but I don’t know how to remap the existing aliases. They are all grayed-out and marked as “missing”.

Please advise how to proceed. Thanks.

Ok… I got the generic nanoKontrol2 working. Right click on the triple dot menu and select “Learn MIDI Device”. After moving a slider it was reactivated green and all the aliases also returned to a green state. So I’m back in business again.

I removed all the Korg driver software as well. Those drivers required rebooting if the unit lost power or had to be plugged back in. I read the generic MIDI driver doesn’t have that issue.

If I ever need the Korg Editor software again I’ll install it and the Korg driver on a separate laptop.

Still confused what update caused this problem. Don’t remember updates coming through recently. It wasn’t a feature update. Guessing a monthly cumulative update.

Korg posted a notice this month (March) to no longer use their USB driver. Microsoft has been rolling out updates to MIDI services and MIDI 2.0 support. The Korg driver has compatibility issues and will not work although the device will be listed. MIDI endpoint registration and enumeration is different.

I imagine other users of nanokontrol2 are going to start running into the problem.
