i´d like to do following:
Coming out of my mic-pre i´d like to connect to a mini-pc running gig performer (with eq´s, comps) to use it in realtime with a very little latency so that it´s not noticeable.
Reason: When i try to record effects in Cubase using the comps inside my DAW the latency is too high in my headphones even if i go down to 64 samples.
My chain should be: Mic - Preamp - Gig performer - DAW.
Here´s what i found to build the Gigperformetr-PC. What do you think about it?:
PC
seems that you want to use Gig Performer to record rather than to perform live - right?
While GP is geared towards live performance - we do have a built in recorder that you can use.
So - You would connect your mic to your pc running GP and then add any effects that you want to add to it (compressor, eq, reverb…). You should be able to now use this in real time, but at the same time simply press the record button and record the RAW input that comes into your mic.
With this - your performer will be able to have a reasonable feedback on what the voice would sound, but you will have captured the raw input and can now import it into your DAW and post process it any way you want.
You almost always want to record the sound at its input. This way you can post produce it any way you want and change it later. If you records your channels after they go through the compressors and effects there is not much you can do except adjust the volume.
Your “run of the mill” laptop will work fine for this as long as you have a decent audio interface.
If you just want to record the “output” of a particular rack space, you could also consider using the free MRecorder plugin from Melda. You would connect MRecorder at the end of your plugin “chain” and record it to wave files which you could just drag into Cubans afterwards. No need for another machine
