Complete Newbie with 8 workstations and USB hub

Hi there
[I hit create topic too soon! Sorry!]

I’m so much of a Newbie that I haven’t even signed up for the free 2 week test drive yet but before I do I would like to know if my existing setup - 8 hardware workstations [Korg M50, M3, Triton Extreme, Kronos, Yamaha Ex7, Montage, Motif XS6, Komplete Kontrol S61] can be connected to GP via the USB hub and work as flawlessly as the Youtube videos describe for virtual instruments? Will GP react to all the knobs and sliders?
Thanks
Ross

GP can react on Knobs and Sliders when you MIDI learn that.

In short… YES!

If every workstation is correctly recognized as midi device and they provide their own midi port, every device/port has its own full MIDI functionality (16CH with all of the available CC# and stuff).

This means, you can use a “midi in block” in GP’s wiring view for each of those devices separately and route the midi signals at will, but also you can assign midi messages from all of the devices to the widgets you use on your panels.
So in theory my answer to your question would be “yes, it will!” (if those controls send out a proper midi message) - but in real life things might also depend on how you generally set things up and how you imagine things had to work (in your opinion).
Maybe your initial plans might also collide with the way GP generally works.

My basic advice:
Don’t try to make GP work as some other software does!
Don’t try to make GP to be some sort of Cubase, Ableton, Cantabile or Mainstage… it just is not that!
Try to embrace the concept of widgets, rackspaces and the flexible wiring possibilities!
Make intensive use of the 14days trial period, read the manual(!) and do your own experiments, but don’t be afraid to ask in these forums if you need help for a specific issue.
Most importantly: Have fun! :beers:

Update
This are great. Mostly. I have started my 2 week tour of the demo version and have connected most of my boards. All is working great, proving how easy and intuitive it is to set up GP, esp compared to a DAW!! You can see this is the pic.

But one of the things I particularly want to do is use the arps in the hardware to trigger the virtual instruments in Kontakt And I can do this with the M50 and the Triton Extreme. But it doesn’t work for the M3, the Motif or the Montage.

Does anybody have any idea why and what I can do about it?
Thanks
Ross

It’s nice of you to say so

They probably don’t send their arps MIDI messages to their MIDI out, or with the wrong MIDI channel or whatever… Put a GP MIDI Monitor Plugin just before the Kontakt plugin, to check what’s happening.
