Bypass VST | Mute Mixer Channel

Hi there

New user here, from MS to GP and it´s a basic question.

I have a rackspace with say a Piano and a Pad connect to a mixer channel 1/2 and 3/4.

A variation with Piano on and other with Pad on. I have a button to Piano and other to Pad to do this.

First question: If I just want Piano should I bypass Pad or mute the mixer (channel 3/4)

Second Question: the problem is that, in Piano variation, if I hold some Piano keys and change to Pad the sound is abruptly cut. What the best way to do this?

Thanks

Best way (IMO) to do this is to use Block midi Note on in the Midi in block rather than muting anything.

This means you aren’t still playing the sound when you down need it, and so less stress on the computer. You can also change variations while holding the notes and they will fade smoothly.

Add a button to your rackspace for each midi in block, and assign it to Block midi note on. Then for each variation just enable or disable the relevant button.

Also, checkout plug-in persist 2.

Do you really need plugin persist with GP5? You can set the bypass behavior to be either instant or fade.

Anyway, if the reason for switching is simply a “patch change”, use whatever method allows the transition to happen the way you want it to.

If you are trying to keep CPU cycles down, and one of the VSTs is CPU intensive (modelled instead of sampled), bypass would be the only way to keep that VST from burning CPU cycles.

Thanks @Dave_bass5

that is what I was looking for. It solves my situation.

Just wondering when you say bypass behavior, that´s defined in vst block no midi in right?

Thanks

Thanks @ztones

I appreciate your answer and I try it. it´s a lit bit complex for me now but maybe later if the CPU gets high I will use it.

I didn’t mention Bypass behaviour, but yes, thats in the VST block itself.

Good luck.
