I am looking at picking up a Behringer FCB1010 and want to use it very simplistically. I don’t want to program anything INSIDE of the pedal board. Say I have my Rackspace setup, I have a button, can I select the button, select MIDI, select “learn” tap say #1 on the foot pedal and have foot pedal #1 then control that button (whatever that button is designed to do). Or say I got to “Options” then “Global” MIDI and select Next Rackspace/Song” select “Learn MIDI for selected Item” and then tap say foot pedal #10 and have that control that function? Can I do stuff like this with Behringer out of the box without needing to program anything on the board itself? Just use it as a “dump” pedal to “learn” from the software?
By default, all buttons send program change messages. Without any configuration, you can select different rackspaces (variations) and songs (song parts).
That’s exactly the right way to use a pedalboard with GP…simple messages from the device, let GP interpret the messages.
The one thing I would suggest is to buy the Eureka PROM upgrade for it.
I have read a lot about different PROMs. So I can learn, since I want to do something so simple, what will this PROM give me that I can’t do out of box?
but what I want to do and how I want to use it won’t require any config on the board correct? I select “Learn” in GP, tap the pedal # I want and am good to go.
I have no idea what the buttons on that pedalboard send out by default. Ideally you want each button to send out a different CC message with a value of 127 when pressed and 0 when released.
It’s my understanding that that PROM makes it easier to configure the board
In my opinion, based on your requirements, I would say no.
As mentioned earlier, this controller sends out Program Change messages by default. In GP, Program Changes have a dedicated role to select rackspace variations or song parts. If you want to have it mapped to widgets or other actions like next/previous, then you want the controller to send Control Change messages for this. That will require some programming in the controller.
I bought one and immediately returned it. Too much of a hassle when the newer midi pedals do things so much easier. One that I found works basically out of the box is the xtone from xsonic..airstep and anything Morningstar are solid as well
