Accessing Outboard Gear from GP

My Rackspace looks like this:

My HYDRASYNTH is connected to my computer directly via USB.
My Quantum is connected to my MioXL via USB.

My problem is: This Rackspace let’s me get to my HYDROSYNTH but not my Quantum?

I am thinking that either I do not have my MioXL setup correctly or GP only recognizes outboard gear that is plugged directly into the computer. I think the problem is with my MioXL configuration. Any help would be appreciated. EG: Do I have to use a form of RTP?

Are you on Mac?

PC Windows 10

Ok, only a suggestion.
I am on Mac and use ip with mio xl, using network sessions accessing the routing defined in mio xl.
Do not know if there is similar with windows.

I use MioXL’s Auracle on the PC. Let me show you a few pics →

How I reference the Quantum in GP:

How the MioXL’s Auracle references the Quantum:

Ok, as I do not have mio xl at home, I cannot check.
Are you sure, that no midi is sent to quantum?
Can you see some led flashing on mioxl when midi is sent to quantum?

Yes, because if I play the Quantum from my KE5X (keyboard controller) directly without going through GP, the Quantum receives it.

I am excited to solve this problem because it means if solved I can:

  1. get rid of loads of DIN cables and wiring complexity in my studio

  2. access all my outboard directly through GP and now that I understand how to use Rig Manager, I can hook all my keyboards through rig manager and play all my outboard gear through GP!!!

  3. combine outboard gear EG: HYDRASYNTH, Kurzweil PCR and Forte, Ketron SD90, multiple Muse Receptors, and Jon Bowen Solaris with Plugins within the same Rackspace

The possibilities are endless! Thank you, GP!

My question was, if you can see some midi going out of mio xl, maybe a led lightning when gig performer is sending midi out.
By the way, how do you send midi out from Gig Performer to quantum?

Yes that is the routing, but how do you send MiDI to quantum?
From the midi in Omni?

Can you upload this rackspace?

sure … give me a minute
Outboard Synths.rackspace (686.3 KB)

If the QUANTUM shows up as a MIDI OUT device in Gig Performer then GP is seeing such a device and you should be able to send MIDI Messages out to that device. If they’re not reaching your keyboard, then something outside of GP is not configured properly. GP is just sending the event to the MIDI device using the MIDI device drivers on your system.

I’m not familiar with that MIO XL but back in the day when I used MOTU Time Piece, it was necessary to configure routings from INPUTS to OUTPUTS. Is that relevant with this MIO?

At the moment, I just removed the quantum usb connection to the MioXL and I am routing it directly into my PC. … and I am not receiving MID into the Quantum. So … there must be another problem. Let me investigate further. Give me a few minutes plz

I am going to send you a gig file (reference Outboard synths Rackspace).
DEXED TX-816.gig (4.1 MB)

I know I can send MIDI to this device (SD-90) via a direct USB connection to the computer … and it makes sound (unlike the Quantum). Referencing it through GP as an outobard device it does not make sound?

Nothing I can do with such a gig file – the problem can’t be inside Gig Performer – has to be your interface or driver.

Oooops sorry, wrong pic. here is the correct pic referencing the SD-90.

By the way, I assume that the port is also enabled inside Gig Performer. E.g.

This is a very weird problem because the Global MIDI Monitor shows that I am sending MIDI notes to the SD-90 but the SD-90 is not receiving them .

In addition, the Global MIDI Monitor shows MIDI data being received from a device that is not connected or powered on. ??
